The Gallery depicts mainly specimens of Indian Contemporary Art (Paintings and Sculptures) over a period of the last two hundred years.

The range of paintings depicted covers the Company School of Paintings. The 'Matured' Bengal School, The Progressive Artists Group, Indian Abstract Act, Narrative painters, The Symbolic-Mystical Style and so on. ( In all there are 200 odd paintings and Sculptures.)

Current display include 75 paintings and _sculptures, carefully selected from its inventory.

The Gallery also displays a mural painting based on the Classical Sanskrit drama Shakuntalam executed in the traditional Kerala Mural style by a recognised master. The Mural 25 ft. long by 5 ft. wide is one of the largest in Kerala and is done with meticulous attention to detail.

A brief description of the Gallery is given below:

Entrance Foyer

Traditional Kerala Mural Art

A mural painting covering 125 sqft., depicts an episode from the Sanskrit drama Shakuntalam by Kalidasa ( circa 4th Century AD). This is executed on the inside wall Karen's mural art has been faithfully reproduced by a master of the art. The unique technique used in this work has been given in our handbook available for sale at the reception counter.

Hall I - Ground Floor

Displays include works by artists form the Calcutta Group represented by Paresh Maity, Laxma Goud, Krishan Khanna, Paneshar, Pradeep Moitra, Paritosh Sen, Chanchal Mukherjee, Sajal sarkar and Women Painters of India represented by Prabha, Aparna Caur, Rini Dhumal, Naina dalal, Jayashree Burman, Gogi Saroj Pal, Rekha Rodwithia.

Hall II - ( Ground Floor)

This hall showcases works by Contemporaries including Ganesh Pyne, Lalu Prasad Shaw, Suhas Roy, Jogen Chaudheri, Shyamal Dutta Roy, Sunil Das, Adimoolam, Ganesh Holoi, Nand Katyal etc… Also displayed here are paintings from the Bengal School represented by Ram Kumar, Shuva Prasanna Bhattacharya, Alok Bhattacharya.

Hall III - (First Floor)

This hall is dedicated to the Progressive Artists Group and includes works by M F Hussain, F N Souza, H A Gade, Sohan Quadri, Jeram Patel, Akbar Padamsee.

Hall IV ( First Floor )

In this group are paintings from Shantiniketan by Nandalal Bose, Abanindranath Tagore, Mukul Chandra Dey and Binod Bihari Mukherji. This hall also houses a set of 5 paintings by Jamini Roy.

Hall V ( Second Floor)

The famous Reverie by Raja Ravi varma is displayed here along with other works by Rama Varma, Madhava Warrier, representing Permanent Transformation of Indian Art.

Also displayed are a couple of paintings from the Company School.

Hall VI ( Second Floor)

This hall is reserved for Art Shows and special displays from time to time.

Sculptures

About 50 sculptures are distributed representing works by D P Roy Chaudhuri, Ram Kinkar Bajaj, Sarbari Roy Chaudhuri and others.
