The Gallery depicts mainly specimens of Indian Contemporary Art (Paintings and Sculptures) over a period of the last two hundred years.

The range of paintings depicted covers the Company School of Paintings. The 'Matured' Bengal School, The Progressive Artists Group, Indian Abstract Act, Narrative painters, The Symbolic-Mystical Style and so on. ( In all there are 200 odd paintings and Sculptures.)

The Gallery also displays a mural painting based on the Classical Sanskrit drama Shakuntalam executed in the traditional Kerala Mural style by a recognised master. The Mural 25 ft. long by 5 ft. wide is one of the largest in Kerala and is done with meticulous attention to detail.

Entrance Foyer

Traditional Kerala Mural Art

A mural painting covering 125 sqft., depicts an episode from the Sanskrit drama Shakuntalam by Kalidasa ( circa 4th Century AD). This is executed on the inside wall Karen's mural art has been faithfully reproduced by a master of the art. The unique technique used in this work has been given in our handbook available for sale at the reception counter.

Hall I - Ground Floor

Shows specimens of  traditional Thanjavoor art, works by the ( "Vompany school) including Raja Ravi Varma, the Matured Bengal School, Progressive Art Group ( Souza, Hussain, Gade); also Kishen Khanna, Examples of Abstract art in this hall are the works of Ram Kumar, Ganesh Haloi, Manu Parekh, G R Santhosh and K G Subramanian, Rini Dhumal, Bhupan Khaker and Laxma Goud, to mention only some.

Hall II - ( Ground Floor)

Has Ganesh Pyne, Shuva Prasanna, Shyamal Datta Roy, Sanjay Bhattacharya, Paresh Maithy and Veena Bhargava amongst others.

Hall III - (First Floor)

Has Sunil Das, B. Sanyal, Madhava Menon, Sudhir Kastgir and Bimal Das Gupta and other artistes.

Hall IV and V (First and Second Floors)

Houses paintings of varied styles, mostly individual styles evolved by the painters. Satyunti, Jagdish Chander, Yesudasan, Sohra Basheer and M Krishnan are some of the artists here.

Hall VI ( Third Floor)

Has a slide projection studio with reproduction on slides of important works of world masters.

Sculptures

About fifty sculptures are distributed on various floors. Works by D P Roy Choudhary, Ram Kinkar Bajaj, Sarbari Roy Chaudhary and Nagai Patel are among those displayed.
